Lavatories in the Healthcare World

In this week’s post of our healthcare “Bathroom Series”, we’d like to share something a little different…

Did you know that certain types of medical facilities dictate what kind of products are allowed? For example, hospitals have high-touch areas (HTOs) which contribute to a higher infection rate as they are prone to gross contamination. Countertops, doorknobs, sinks, toilet handles, toilet seats, handrails, commodes, paper and soap dispensers are considered to be HTOs. OSHPD (California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development) has jurisdiction on all finishes… including the use of wallpaper. In this discussion of hospitals, only antimicrobial surfaces are permitted.

The photo here is one of our private pain management surgical centers. The use of porous surfaces, such as natural stone, are acceptable and suitable for this type of practice.
